Dear Reader,
After a well deserved break to Canada, I decided to amalgamate two editions into one, so don’t worry you haven’t missed an edition!
This month sees the history article on Northwood, as with all the history pieces this one introduced me to many people in the community, as well as to some fascinating facts. The Northwood postcard collection, courtesy of Peter Connell (who also became my proof - reader), has helped visualise the past even more.
There’s plenty to do this month, with; a New Temporary Exhibition about Famous Harrow People at the Harrow Heritage Museum (page 6); the Summer Reading Challenge run by Harrow Library Service on the 12th July – 6th September (page 7) or you might consider being a Volunteer for the ‘Celebration of Life’ in Rickmansworth (page 8). Whatever you do enjoy yourselves.
Hearnden and Daughters Funeral Directors are celebrating 10 years serving the community of Hatch End and the surrounding areas this year. If you would like to read more about their success story read page 20!
Latest tourism spending figures have just been released for Harrow by The London Development Agency, which show a substantial increase from £92.6 million recorded in 2004 to £160 million in 2006. Shame we don’t have the same kind of money to spend at this time! Thanks to our local businesses this month who have come up with many offers for you. So with a recession looming take advantage of these and save yourself some money!
Next month, the history piece on Harrow on the Hill should be a good read, if you would like to contribute to the next edition or have some photos that you think CT Pinner readers may like to see then call me or drop me an email.
Until next month, see you around!
